Proulx Winery, Paso Robles

 Finished up the Proulx Winery/Tasting Room signage, and mounted it all today. All hand lettered and drop shadowed, the way a proper winery should be. The background color is a single stage auto paint, so that the red will last. This new signage gives a much richer look to the place (the old signs were vinyl, and almost every bit of it was peeling).

Wilson's Family Restaurant, Paso Robles, Ca. Since 1948

 Wilson's Restaurant in Paso Robles since 1948 is closing this weekend after 65 years. If you have been raised in this area, you will know it, but if you are from out of the area, and into vintage kustom cars, you will know it from the days of the west coast kustoms show. We spent many a hour in here over the years (in the days before I moved here) during the car show, both drinking and eating. Sad to see it go, another chunk of the old soul of Paso lost. Memories!

  This morning, we went in to have one last meal, and I opted to have the Cowboy Omelet, my old "car show" stand-by from years past (even though I rarely eat like this anymore)...

Siegel's Jewelery sign hung...

 Siegel's sign finished and hung. The electrical should be wired up by tonight, and the sign should shine in all of it's glory. Another one down, and I am very pleased with the final outcome...

Fe-nom-e-nal Paso Robles...

Finished and installed today. The 5ft. tall by 20 inch wide cut out and back-lit Fenomenal restaurant sign in downtown Paso Robles. I sure am pleased with the finished product, and so was the client. 

A feather in my cap...

 Finished and hung! The large metal sign that I have been working on for the last few weeks, has finally found it's home, and freed up some much needed shop floor space. I am sooo pleased with the way this sign turned out. The background is a 4 ft. x 10 ft. four sided flange pan, that I had powder coated in a rust color, and then added the faux rust patina with a mixture of One Shot paint, oil based stain and paint thinner. The added rivets were just for aesthetics, and were left bare to rust in the elements. The can letters are 30" high and 4" deep, and are highly polished aluminum (they look blue in the pictures, but that is just the reflection of the sky). The best part about it, is that it's hanging right downtown, on the main drag, for everyone to see... Perfect.

new life...

 True to the times, Bernick's Steak House closed down last month. (seems they cut and ran in the middle of the night). Well this month, it has been taken over, and a new life is set to start tonight. The new name is Sinatra's, and hopefully it will be successful. Last week I was stopped on the street, where I was just finishing up a lettering job, and asked to do the name changing. I came up with a logo (font) and did all of the lettering. The A-frame sign that Bernicks used, was striped and re-painted, and lettered. It has been 5 years or so since I made the A-frame sign, and other than being a bit scratched and splattered with something, it was solid and and in great shape. I have been asked in the past, "why are they so expensive?" and that's just why, quality goes along way... Plus $400 is really not that expensive.

Paso Car Show ??? Or ??? Well ???

Paso, but not the one that you might think. For years the West Coast Kustoms hosted first one, than two, than back to one car show(s) per year in Paso Robles. During that time, Paso Robles also held a much smaller, cookie cutter style classic car show (35 1957 Chevy's in a line) hosted by the Golden State Classics C.C.. Although this show is very predictable, with the Beach Boys music and the poodle dresses, there were a select group of bitchin cars. Some really nice Kustoms and Hot Rods were rejected at the gate because they sported primer, but the 65 Mustangs were well represented. Here are a few pics that I took along the way.....

Auto Display Sign....

Sign that I finished today for the new Vintage Racing / Rare Auto Museum being built on the Estrella WarBird Museum grounds in Paso Robles. This place will be very cool and worth the drive to see. Not only will the Auto Museum have many vintage race cars, but they are going to revolve them out to keep it fresh every few months. Vintage war planes and Vintage race cars, plus a very cool hall dedicated to WWII that features among many other very cool items, an orig. Flying Tigers hand painted bomber jacket. This place is quite the destination.
