Full Service...

Remember the full service option at gas stations? Where the attendant would come out, ask "fill er' up"?, wash the windows, kick the tires and check the oil? In California for the most part, this has gone the way of the drive in movies. However, on a roadtrip, in a small offbeat town, there is sometimes a guy, the guy who has been at the same station since his Daddy opened it 60 years ago. There is not even a Self-Serve option. 85 years old, and still taking the time to make sure that everything is right when you pull out onto the high-way. The cash price and the credit price are the same. Honest service for a good price. No mini market, just a 1970's Coke bottle machine, and a condom machine in the restroom. Somehow stepping back in time makes everything right in the world.

Roy Orbison...

Roy Orbison's generator shovelhead at the Hard Rock in Phoenix, looks alot like my first Harley.

Shady Dell Trailer Motel....

Bisbee Az. the Shady Dell vintage trailer court motel. $60-$120 a night. A bit of a drive, south of Tombstone by 30 miles or so, but well worth it. Restored trailers set around in a campground setting for rent. Restored Dinner Car out front for food. This is americana at it's best.

TrucK StopS...

Oh the things that you can run across in truckstops.

roadtrip roadside relics

Cabazon Ca. Dinosaurs off of I-10. This is where Pee Wee got chased off from in Pee Wee's big adventure. Trippy place in the middle of nowhere, cool roadside attraction, one of the few still open on this stretch of hi way. There are many ghosts of roadside past abandoned, and falling down in the desert.

Oh, one more thing... On the way to town the other day (fathers day) we heard a loud bang on the truck, thought that I had kicked up a rock. Got to town and saw a bullet hole in the pass. door. Two guys shooting squirrels, the speaker stopped the bullet. Thank God it was a 17 cal. and not something bigger. You know it makes you think....
Oh and I lived in Oakland for many years, and I get shot living in Paso Robles.

RoAdTrIp...

Off on a ROADTRIP for the next week and 1/2. Down to Arizona (no helmet law!!! Not taking a bike. Bummer!!!) and Las Vegas. Hope to get alot of great pictures and perhaps a story or two. Going to miss the Headhunters show this weekend in AG. That sucks as it's always a great time. Anyhow, catch you on the other side.

Karma ???

Wow these things happen in three's ( that's the third big death this week), I just wonder if karma caught up with him?!

Gone....

Gone, one of the hottest women from the 1970's. Every young boy had or knew someone that had the Farrah Fawcett poster on their wall.

Parts runneR...

Perfect Sunday Goin'-to-meetin' vehicle. I have always had a fond place for the Caddy El Camino style high bread, although everyone else tells me I'm crazy.

Auto Display Sign....

Sign that I finished today for the new Vintage Racing / Rare Auto Museum being built on the Estrella WarBird Museum grounds in Paso Robles. This place will be very cool and worth the drive to see. Not only will the Auto Museum have many vintage race cars, but they are going to revolve them out to keep it fresh every few months. Vintage war planes and Vintage race cars, plus a very cool hall dedicated to WWII that features among many other very cool items, an orig. Flying Tigers hand painted bomber jacket. This place is quite the destination.

Ed McMahon gone

Wow, another one... always knew who this guy was growing up, from the Carson Show to the Clearing House adds on TV. 86 years old, a great life, RIP...
