Tonight...
Seared Togarashi Ahi with black squid ink risotto, calamari. Last week on the TV, I saw Anthony Bourdain in Italy eating this black squid ink, and saying how great it was, tonight it was on the menu... and he was right.
trip...
The moment that you step away from your usual daily reality, you will often find that there is a parallel reality that is easily taken on. This last week, I took off, for a long overdue road trip. My parents ranch is about 9 hours north of us, on the border with Oregon. I had a C-Zone deer tag, and the season was quickly getting away from me. It has been to hot up north for any decent hunting, so I have been "on call" pending cooler weather. Well late last week the call came, and I quickly finished up the jobs that I had going, and hit the road. On the way, I hit the Royal Jokers Oakland show, and then the long haul north. As I drove the beauty of the mountains, increased with every mile. Once in Siskiyou County everything became very clear, crisp and clean. Fall is in the air and the colors are quickly changing. The next three days were full of hunting and fishing, with some "ranch rooting" thrown in for good measure. My tag was filled on the first morning, with a decent buck, the next morning early we hit the Klamath River for some Salmon fishing. We caught 14 or so (threw many back) and had a great day. Filled the truck bed with oak firewood that we split, for the BBQ. Made the trip home yesterday, back to real life, interesting the transition. The freezer is full of the best "organic" meat anywhere, and I am rejuvenated. Somehow, I only got a couple of pictures that were any good...

Royal Jokers Oakland show...
Royal Jokers last show of the year in Downtown Oakland. I finally made it up for one! Great show, with a huge number of people, cars and bikes in attendance. I have known the main Royal Jokers since we were all youngsters, and it was great to see everyone, and get caught up. If you get the chance next year, get to this show, you won't be let down...

Murio's Trophy Room...
After the HSB show in Golden Gate Park this last weekend, we headed over to Haight St. to have a burrito at Zona Rosa. On the way, we passed by one of my old stomping grounds... Murio's Trophy Room at the top of Haight St. is a place that I knew quite well. More often than not, after seeing a show or going to a party, we would end up at Murio's. This is a great old school neighbourhood bar, and all of these years later, it hasn't changed. When we walked in the other night, I felt 21 again...

The Boys "Digger"...
The Boy's 62' Sporty Digger, after some period re-working by Brandon. I guess Brandon will be bringing it out to the Royal Jokers show this Friday night in Oakland, so keep an eye out for it. Bitchin' Scoot...

Kool Hand Luke...
My buddy Luke over in Fresno sent me these pictures of his recently finished ride for his little boy. Starting out with a Chrysler Fire Truck peddle car, and ending as a kustom masterpiece. Great work, and leafing skills...

Templeton Livestock Market...
Got called in to letter the sales ring at the Templeton Livestock Market (auction) yesterday. Very basic black paint, as the cattle will quickly wipe it out. For me it's very interesting to work in this great old building. As a youngster, I attended many cattle auctions in this very building, with my Dad and Grandfather. Lots of history, the chairs alone will speak to that. One of the last "old time" cattle sales ring auctions left in this part of the world, a real piece of quickly vanishing rural America. Even this buildings days are numbered, as the rumor is, that as soon as the economy turns around, the realtor's want to level it and build houses. We will see...

Music overload weekend...
This weekend was the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass up in The City (S.F.). So many good players, and as luck would have it, many have or will play in San Luis Obispo around this time. On Friday night, Justin Townes Earle, Jason Isabel and the 400 Unit and Caitlan Rose played at Downtown Brew in SLO. Great show, and cool people! The next morning (early) we hit the road for S.F. and saw so many more. Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, Jason Isabell, Ryan Bingham, Reckless Kelly, Gillian Welch, Band of Horses & Steve Earle, just to name a few. Great day!!! Still trying to get my head around it all...
