LA Velodrome...

Today we were down in Carson, Ca. at the Home Depot Center. There they have the only wooden Velodrome in North America. When I was in Europe a few years ago, I saw these Velodrome's in quite a few small towns, but in America, there are very few, and at that, most are cement. The Velodrome's are used today for bicycle's, but motorcycles are used to set the pace and create a draft. Years ago, these were the board track's that are so famous in motorcycle history. The craftsmanship that it took to build this track is incredible, all strips of bent hardwood, I was very impressed. This track was built for the 1984 LA Olympics, and has been in use ever since...

Erwin Ross "Der Rubens von der Reeperbahn"

Erwin Ross (1926-2010) first worked as a Sign Painter in East Germany, where he painted portraits of Lenin and Marx. His other works were deemed "obscene" by the government, and he was allowed (or asked) to leave to West Germany. There his career took a turn, he began to get jobs designing and painting Strip Joints. By the mid 1970's his work could be seen on every strip club in the St. Pauli district of Hamburg.

Oakland 1940's

Zombie Village, Oakland Ca. circa 1940's This would have been a great place to go... A totally different world, and certainly a different Oakland. What a difference 70 years makes. I used to work on 53rd and San Pablo and it was gnarly. Drive-by's, hookers, and drug deals in the late 1980's and early 1990's. You defiantly had to keep your eyes open, it was a sketchy neighborhood for sure. I think that the area has become better since, with Pixar right around the corner, and some company's moving into this part of Oakland, the area has undergone a small rebirth.

One of these days...

I have wanted to build a small travel trailer off of the old kit plans for some time...

Oh how times have changed, I can remember riding on the back of motorbikes with my dad at a very young age. My daughter has been on the back of a bike since she was very young. But as time goes on, it seems that everyone is so overly protective of the youth. My Nephews had to wear helmets while riding their tricycles in the house, on a carpeted floor, and skateboarding is out of the question (My sister in law was so pissed, when we bought them decks for Christmas a few years back)! Will there be any hope for the next generation?
