Sporty commin' together...
Mike's Sportster, that I striped and gold leafed, coming together. The clear is sprayed, but not yet rubbed out. This bike has a nice early competition feel, but somewhat modern, with the MX parts. Now I just need to finish the oil tank...

The joys of old vehicles...
The old boy got a lift back home today.... The up's and down's of owning and driving old cars / trucks / bikes. Ok the high points far out-weigh the low points, but right now is a low point. I bought this truck (my workhorse) 5 years ago out of a local barn, with 41,000 orig. miles. The truck had been sitting in this barn unmoved for 19 years. I has been a trustworthy driver, but now it sits with two stuck valves. So it's rebuild time, unless I can find a good runner. If anyone knows of a 292 y-block runner, let me know....

A quick peek into the Jeff Claassen Gallery...

If you ever find yourself in San Luis Obispo, Ca. do yourself a favor, and stop at the Jeff Claassen Gallery. The gallery features original artwork by Jeff as well as many other artists, plus paint supplies, art books, urban hipster ware, and a good dose of inspiration (a trip here, makes you want to paint). So if in the neighborhood, check him out at 785 Marsh St. SLO. Or click the link to the right for his online store & blog.

American Pickers...BS
I saw this show the other night, and man did it piss me off. These guys are the token American Chopper loudmouth kooks, that every show now has to have. Not to mention, they are going around on a "staged" treasure hunt that is just to good to be true. The problem is, that now everyone that watches the show, and has a pile of goodies behind the barn, is going to think that they have a goldmine (whether they do or not). I guess the only saving grace is, that rural ranchers don't usually have extended cable. Don't get me wrong, I'm not into ripping people off, to make a profit. But there is nothing more fun than spending a day rooting through someone else's pile and coming out with some goodies.I guess it's like when the Choppers C.C. had that special on TV, and one of them (I don't remember who? Kieth, Vern?) said that they wait for the old men to restore their cars, and when they swap the motors out for new one's, the Choppers grab them up for nothing. Just after that, every ol' timer that came into my buddies hot rod shop, wanted a bunch of money for their old motors... Because as they said, "the young kids are putting them into their hot rods". So much for the $100 Nailheads, and Flatheads.
Storm so far...

Ok, I know that we need the rain, and I'm sure that this is payback, for being perhaps too happy last week when it was 79 at the beach. But things are getting crazy around here. This morning, the only tree tree in the yard that I care for, went down in the wind-storm. My old signs are blowing off of the fence, and the side hill is sliding ever-so-slowly into my back yard. And they say the big one is coming tomorrow.
The power has been off all morning, so working in the shop is out...

New Johnny Cash out Feb. 26th...

American VI hits stores on Feb 26th (his 78th birthday). The last of the Rick Rubin produced music Cash recorded. And includes the last song that Johnny Cash wrote before his death, plus guest appearances by Kris Kristofferson, and Bob Dylan. Looking forward to hearing it. Hope it's all that I'm expecting, and more.

Cretins MC (L.A.)...
Found this pic of the Cretins at Bonneville last year. My buddy Wayne "Chicken Ramp" Childs (Drunktank) on the right with his Moto Guzzi. For some reason, every picture that I see of the Cretins MC, they have drinks in hand...

Bummer...
Not that I'm into this kind of car, but some guy's are. Every time that I see one of these high end sports cars, I think of all the cool stuff that I could buy, if I sold it. Don't get me wrong, I am sure that it's a blast to drive, but that car is 15 super cool motorbikes, or every accessory for my Suburban times ten.... Actually, I'm sort of wishing he went under my truck, come to think of it!
