Moto Bandits...

My good friend Mike, went out this last weekend with some guys from his work. Apparently, this group of guys get together throughout the year, and go on some killer enduro rides. On this ride, they drove up to Elko Nevada, and from there, rode trails into Arizona, to the Grand Canyon, and then back to a Dude Ranch where they stayed. This looks like a great time! I am jealous...

At Cacklefest last weekend...

Mr. C...

This week we lost two of the TV parents that we all grew up with. Starting early this week with "Beavers Mom" Barbara Billingsley, and then again yesterday with "Mr. C" Tom Bosley. As a kid, Happy Days was one of my all time favorites, already in reruns, it showed every afternoon after school. Although we don't personally know these people, we all feel a connection, that oddly enough feels like family. These people have left their mark, and will be remembered for many years... RIP

Is there any hope? 11 years ago I sold/traded a set of these sargent stripes to Jason Jessee, so that I could get some money together for our wedding. Try to find a set now! I keep telling myself, stay calm, relax, I will find a set on a ranch somewhere..... This set just sold on ebay for $2,300+. Now I'm not going for some overly accessorised Suburban, but there are a few accessories that I like, now I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need stripes at all...

Africa or California? A friend of mine, who runs cattle just north of Paso Robles, put up a game camera at the water trough. He is attempting to get a better idea of whats going on after dark, and figure out why he has lost a few head. Well the camera worked out quite well. The game warden will tell you that these big cats are very rare, and keep their distance... Just for perspective, that water trough is a old Army water tank cut in half, and is at least 10' across... Crazy

More Pioneer Day pictures...

Some other pics from today... The first two pictures, feature members of my family. I am a fourth generation Paso Robles resident, and part of the pioneer day celebration is to pay tribute to the "pioneers" of the area. I just happened to notice this group of pictures through a store window. I have never seen these pics before, but the first (bitchin' mustache) is a great uncle, and the second picture shows my great grandfather (top row eighth from the left).

New shop sign...

Put the new sign up today on the shop. Because Mike & I went in on the space together, we came up with a general name for the space. I will make a secondary Lucky B Design sign as I start working out of the space. I am very pleased with the way it all came together. Lookin' good...

Back to the Drawing tables...

Picked up these two vintage drawing tables at a recent auction. I had to dig deep to win them (there is always one other guy bidding), so they were not cheap. I just had to have them... The first, and most impressive, is this Victorian era, cast iron base, fully adjustable model, with swing-out table and two drawer cabinet. Everything on this table is original, and the patina is as good as it could possibly be. I can't imagine the story's this thing could tell. The second table is newer, but also very stylish. It's arts & crafts era, and again is very original. These tables "fit" so well into the new shop, and will come in very handy. I love this old stuff, it's so much radder than buying new, and for less money...

Plates...

The New Shop...

So here it is, the new shop space. Last month, while attending the small San Miguel car show, we took notice of this cool old shop 1/2 a block off of the main drag, with a faded for rent sign in the window. The town is a trip, sort of the old west border town. There is a feeling of lawlessness, and that is both good and bad. Good in the fact that no one is looking over your shoulder, bad in that, due to a number of white trash cranksters, you are constantly looking over your own.

The building is very cool with a great history. Built in the early 1940's as a laundry for the near by Camp Roberts Army base. There were stations set up inside, and worked by several women (full service). After WWII, the building became an auto garage up until recent years, when it became a real estate office for a brief time.

My buddy Mike and I are working to put this place together, and it is coming along quite well. Mike just bought a wood burning stove, and I am working on a main sign for the front. We should be set up and running soon. Stay tuned...

Random...

Ok, have you ever noticed that in alot of the old movies, a guy will have a propeller blade hanging on his office wall? Well I sure have. For some time I have been keeping my eye out of such a blade, thinking it a prime blank for lettering. At a recent auction I was able to win an old wooden propeller blade. Although not a full size prop. (it's only 2' long) it serves it's purpose. I lettered it up for my office wall...

Not to beat a dead horse, but I thought this was funny. I still don't understand, how this guy, and everyone around him are so out of touch, with the industry that they claim to be part of. Falcon is quite well known, as are their bikes. They have been covered extensively in the magazines, on the Internet, and are even featured in an American Express commercial. If in fact a third party produced the shirt, red flags should have flown everywhere when Paul Jr. Oked the design, or at least when he modeled it. These guys must just have blinders on, and be oblivious to the custom motorcycle world around them. For sure, it would do them some good to take a look around, and get a clue. Thier bike designs could only benifet...
