Unknown color SF Earthquake photos discovered...
The Flood Building showing damage...
Shot from the roof of the Majestic Hotel...
City Hall...
Rooftop shot showing the damage along Van Ness Ave...
The first ever color photos of the aftermath of the 1906 S.F. Earthquake have been discovered this week by the Smithsonian Institution. The pictures were shot by photographic pioneer Fredrick Ives, just after the quake. The pictures were donated to the Smithsonian by the artists son. These photos are great, and offer a much clearer view of what it must have been like. Note the very fancy hand lettered billboard in the bottom photo.
