Ok, so I have received several emails on the Carryall that I pictured below. Everyone wants to know what happened. Well, it's the same old story, just as frustrating as every time it has been told before. This truck was very hard to spot, on a property scattered with garbage. The house was boarded up and there was no one to be found. I asked the neighbors, and they had no idea of who owned the property. I went on with my day, but went back later, and poked around a bit more. This time a lady down the street (very drunk) told me that she knew the owner, but would not give me his phone number. I gave her my number, with the hope that she would pass it on. I walked on to the property (not posted for trespassing) to take a closer look. Every window on the truck was blown out, and the inside was full of debris, but the body was solid. The truck turned out to be a GMC which makes it quite a rare bird. The rear seats were missing, but there was an extra Clamshell bottom door sitting inside. After looking around a bit, I found the extra Clamshell top door with the glass still intact thrown over on the wood pile. For the next two nights, I found it hard to sleep, as I just knew that the truck could be got. But as usually happens, I received a call from the property owner, saying that the carryall was not for sale. It was his brothers, and he has plans for it. I told him that all of the glass had been busted out, and he said that he knew that, and added that that had happened in the early 1980's when the truck was first parked there. I tried and tried, but could get nowhere. I asked the owner to keep my number handy, if it came up for sale.
This drives me crazy! The last registration on the truck was in the early 70's, and I know that this guy will never do anything with this truck. So no, I didn't get the Carryall, and yes it will winter more snow storms without any glass. I will continue to check on it when I'm in the area. But for now, it waists away slowly, waiting to be saved...
Everything gets sold sooner or later. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteI say FUCK IT take it! Lets go with the trailer and winch and pull it out of its rotting hell. By the way, I am totally serious. It pisses me off that some jackass has something cool rotting away. They always have some dumbass brother, son, cousin or some other shithead that has "plans" for it. I say its time for guerrilla car collecting.
ReplyDeleteI hear you Clay, but karma is a bitch, and bites back hard...
ReplyDeleteYeah but, how do you know in this instance, we would not be the agents of karma???? hmmmm......?
ReplyDeleteThat he took the time to call you back seems to be a good sign. You happen to figure out what kind of business he's in? Maybe try getting back at him when the lust has died down a bit. At least ask him if he minds if you go seal up the windows.
