34 steps and 50 years...
For all of the bumming things coming out of Nashville today, there are equally as many super cool things still co-existing. This town is still great to visit, and the history can't be beat. Of the many things to see while in Nashville, one for sure is Music Row (Broadway). Broadway still hosts a large number of Honky Tonks, where at any time of day or night, players are playing, people are gathering, and joints are jumpin'. One of the best of these bars, is Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. Tootsie's backs up to the back door of the Rhyman Auditorium (Grand Ole Opry House), and was the escape route for all of the big names in country music history, most of whom left their mark in the place somehow. Many famous songs have been written at Tootsie's, many more players have got their start at Tootsie's. I have had a few beers at Tootsie's in my time, and let me tell you, this place is magic. Think of your favorite dive bar, and then mix in Graceland, the Opry, Disneyland and anything else that is bitchin' n the world and you have Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. These next few months, the Country Music Hall of Fame is hosting an exhibition on Tootsie's, so if your in Nashville check it out, and then go to Tootsie's and drink in some history...
