I am a big fan, and often listen to her while working, her voice is so great, she will be truly missed! RIP, Heaven is full of music this week...

In as much as I'm not a natural "morning person", I have trained myself over the years to be. Once I'm up and on the move, I realize, that it is truly a special time. The sunrise is beautiful, and throw a swap meet in and it all clicks. Oh and this ridiculous winter that we are having (mid 70's in January) makes it easy, almost spring-like. Came home with a handful of goodies, had fun rootin' through piles. Didn't buy the Buffalo chariot with lancer caps, but Mike did get the mouth harp, so he can freak out his rural neighbours while sitting around his fire pit in Creston (the noise travels for miles out there).

Christmas gifts, there were many great ones both given and received this year. It has been an overall great holiday! There is however one gift that touched me. My 16 year old daughter, gave me the David Allen Coe "Penitentiary Blues" album. I have had parts of this album on my I-Pod for years, but had not found the complete album. Man, I have a rad daughter! Oh and the album is sooo good!!!

Pulled up on this little phaeton this morning heading south on the 101. Wow! Great car, what's the story? Barn find? Old hot rod, with a old club plaque from Half Moon Bay. The guy driving the truck, didn't look the type, or at least not the type to leave it alone. I motioned, he waived... whatever, beautiful!!!

All of these vehicles, that I grew up around. My Dad had a 67' Bronco and an early Jeep when I was a boy. It's interesting that as I get older, I find myself re-discovering things that I have grown up with, and overlooked. I still like the early American iron, but wouldn't mind one of these late 60's early 70's American 4x4's. Finding one that has made it this long, without getting hacked up is rare, but the price point on these trucks is still decent, and the possibilities that they open up are countless. Food for thought...

Good show, very small, no one came out. At one point, Jackson mentioned, "in Texas, people know who I am, and come see me play". The band got super wasted, and played for hours. Once they were through with all of their own songs, they played several of Waylon's, some of Willie's and even a George Michael song. They were good spirited, and gave it their all, and got real funny as they got drunker and drunker...

Finished and hung! The large metal sign that I have been working on for the last few weeks, has finally found it's home, and freed up some much needed shop floor space. I am sooo pleased with the way this sign turned out. The background is a 4 ft. x 10 ft. four sided flange pan, that I had powder coated in a rust color, and then added the faux rust patina with a mixture of One Shot paint, oil based stain and paint thinner. The added rivets were just for aesthetics, and were left bare to rust in the elements. The can letters are 30" high and 4" deep, and are highly polished aluminum (they look blue in the pictures, but that is just the reflection of the sky). The best part about it, is that it's hanging right downtown, on the main drag, for everyone to see... Perfect.

Some goodies from today, the Pan rolled in spittin' and smokin'. This was one loose ol' girl, resurrected from a long hibernation. Super cool! Travis brought out his long Triumph. The Guzzi was bitchin', everything else was pretty regular. Big turnout, for a good cause.

The last few weeks have been a juggling act around the Lucky B Design workshop. Along with the usual number of signs that need to get finished, there is a huge metal sign that is slowly moving towards completion. This sign, not only is different medium than I usually work with, but it takes up a big part of the shop space. It is heavy, and each time I need to move it, I have to find someone to help. So many trips to the metal shop, back to the shop for fab, sandblaster, back to the shop for drilling, and now off to powder coat. Later today, it's back to the shop for patina, and Assembly. I can't wait to see it all come together (outside of my minds eye), and install it. Slowly but surly...

I love these old pictures, and the lettering and design work of yesterday. It is inspiring to see the old layouts, and the application. I love the window (top half) border stripe with lettering inside on the Courier Express building. The Calbecks Food Market panel truck is lettered across the drip rail, without regard for the panel area, and it works quite well. These are all ideas that I absorb, and hope to have a chance to recreate someday.
