Early fulfillment...

Got up early, planted two trees, cleaned the shop, all by 10am. The sun is out, and it's supposed to hit 80 today. Drinking coffee, pondering the next step... A good start of the day...

Deadlines...

Man it's been non-stop around here for the last few weeks. That is a good thing! I just pulled the last border stripes on the above menu signs, that have to be dry, and be delivered tonight (boring signs I know, but they all help pay the bills). I don't know how it works for everyone else, but when I'm busy, my already small shop space, seems to get smaller and smaller. As I work and set tools and saw horses, brushes and paint cans around, before I know it, I have a little "clear" space left to move around in... Now it looks like it's cleaning time. Here are some super random shots of cleaner areas in my small work world (mostly walls).

13th St. Barber Shop sign...

I have been working on this sign for the last week or so, when time permitted. I put a bevel facade on the sign by reliving from the back. I painted the barber stripes on, and gave them a patina for the age effect. The letters are 23 carrot gold leaf, and other vinyl colors. This sign pops right off of the building. Now a trim-up of the tree, and all will be great...

Tonights treat...

PR Cleaners van...

Got to do a "complete" today on a customers new van. He wanted the logo hand painted, and a pinstripe to match. It's not to often that I get to hand paint a van anymore, it was a real treat. A fun day...

Ohio Sign & Pictorial Artists Union...

Many years ago, my buddy and fellow sign man, Erich found this incredible book on a dusty long forgotten shelf, in a back corner of a sign shop where we worked together. Ever since, I have hated him just a little bit. I have looked for a copy, but have not seen another. The book is large format, and each page has a print worth framing. A great window into the golden age of sign writing...
